Requirements

GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY

Programs are to Métis people of Saskatchewan with valid MN-S Citizenship Card.
Applicants must own at least 51% of the business.
Applicants will be required to use a SMEDCO application form accompanied by:

  • A Personal Financial Statement for each owner or participant (including spouses) of the business
  • Copy of the letter received from the MN-S registry confirming the individual’s citizenship number
  • Proof of Equity (current bank statement)
  • Resume
  • Driver’s License
  • Historical Financial Statements for the previous 3 years if an existing business
  • Historical Financial Statements for the previous 3 years if purchasing an existing business
  • Summary Report of Incorporation & Articles of Incorporation
  • Copy of the letter received from the MN-S registry confirming the individual’s citizenship number
  • The business and management must be viable and demonstrate the potential for profitability.
  • Current account balance and statement of account for all CRA accounts (if an existing business)
  • Quotes for all major purchases requested

Applicants must demonstrate commitment and be actively involved in the day to day operations.

Applicants must have some equity in the business in the form of cash and/or contributions of land, existing equipment and machinery, or pledging of other assets.

Application Process

Step 1

Fill out the Application Package, ensuring all information listed in the Requirements section above is included with your application.

Step 2

We will confirm the application and have a conversation about your project. We may need more information so this step is dependent on how prepared the project is.

Step 3

SMEDCO Screening Meeting

  1. Move forward with the project
    1. Moving the project forward with a business plan / asset appraisal / Chartered Business Valuation
  2. The project does not receive an investment at this time

Step 4

Work with consultants on your project

We usually require 3rd party involvement for the creation of your business plan (including multi-year projections), Chartered Business Valuations, and/or asset appraisals. If we have asked for this information, SMEDCO can cover 75% of the cost and you are responsible for 25% and the GST.

Example. $4,000 + GST Business Plan = $3,000 (SMEDCO) + $1,000 (Client) + $200 (GST – Client)

Step 5

We take your plan with all its supporting information and we complete our loan submission.

Step 6

SMEDCO’s Board of Directors review the submission and they approve or decline the project.
